If your plans require containers for a long term or even permanently, it is probably better to purchase your container. But before you make your purchase please check for any municipal rules against using containers in your area. There are many options when purchasing a container, they are available in a variety of sizes & types. The most common is a standard dry van container with a cargo door on one end. The dry storage containers are very prevalent with millions in circulation around the world. By far the most common are 20′ and 40′ Storage or shipping containers with options like; Dry, Insulated, or Modified containers, and in various sizes. Availability depends on your location, but in general it is easiest to find the 20′ and 40′ containers. When you stray from the common sizes & types you will pay premium and increase the risk of receiving a container in substandard condition.

Container Sizes & Common Uses

Besides the typical sizes that are designed for the shipping industry, companies often offer containers in other lengths, These containers are typically cut down to make other sizes in length. These often come in sizes as small as 10′ and range up to 45′ or 53′ with common height of 8’ 6″. The larger sized containers 40′ 45′ and 53′ are also often available as “high cubes”. High cube containers are 9’ 6″ high with a much larger total storage capacity.
